Quotes

Below are a selection of quotes and poetry I may use as one of my many layers during the final exhibition, it really is hard to find good classical homosexual poetry, pref ones that refer to smells... and finding a quote that isn't too long, I'll have to decipher bits of quotes/poems rather than cut the entire thing out. I've decided upon using a quote as my main layer rather than statistics because I want an aspect of love to play a factor of homosexuality, it's a key factor and should be seen as just that, pure and simple love for another being be it opposite or same-sex.

My true love hath my heart, and I have his,
By just exchange one for another given:
I hold his dear, and mine he cannot miss,
There never was a better bargain driven:
My true love hath my heart, and I have his.
- Sir Philip Sidney, The Bargain

Aroused, he exhales
The intense perfume of his musk.
The sight of his face, lit by a ray of light
Imprints itself.

So arresting is his beauty,
So limitless its power,
That the gaze of those parched for love
Envelops him in tenderness,

And the caress of all those black eyes
Has daubed his body
With their magic color.
- Muhammad al-Nawaji

Children of the future age,
Reading this indignant page,
Know that in a former time,
Love, sweet Love, was thought a crime!
- William Blake

I hear my love, see how he comes
leaping on the mountains,
bounding over the hills.
My love is like a gazelle,
like a young stag.

How delightful you are Caleh,
My lover-man, my other half.
Your pleasing masculine love is better than wine.
The smell of your body is better than perfume.
Your moustache is waxed with honeycomb.
Honey and milk are under your tongue.
The scent of your clothing is like the smell of Lebanon.
- The Song of Songs, A Gay Love Poem (Fidelity Press, 1995)
